My (Almost) Trebelation - part 3

:)
After the news that shook my world (dramatisation effect), I proceeded to slowly get myself ready for the day. I woke Afiq up before I hit the shower. Texted Faisal to see where he is, and by 9.30am we were running. By the time we finished breakfast at Kak Cik's place, it was already 10am. Just nice to proceed, as normally it only takes at most half an hour to get from the area to Damansara Jaya.
Little did we know that somehow the MRR2 heading to Sungai Buloh was experiencing a VERY BAD congestion due to its design (read: bottleneck) eventhough there weren't any accidents along the way. To be honest, I have experienced such bad crawls on that road but I did not expect it to be happening on a Saturday morning. In the end, we reached 40 minutes later
than expected at the destination.
It also must be noted that my parents lost track of my car and had to wait at the roadside for me to lead them back. It's quite tough being the head of the convoy, I must say. Maybe I should buy those walkie-talkies for the next trip. Hm, but it wasn't so bad during first year where we convoyed from Coventry to Soton!
We met up with the other 2 cars (my parents' friends) who were waiting patiently at the side of the Petronas near KDU.
The parking was FULL although Mimi did mention that we could park in front of the house, in front of her neighbour's house and one more spot that I'd forgotten (was it in YOUR garage? Couldn't be, right..). We settled for a spot which was quite a fair walk. I remember the sun was at its best that day. Phew!
We had barely caught our breath when the event started. I was torn between my family wanting me to be inside so that they can introduce me to the rest of the relatives but Mimi's family said I had to be outside as I wasn't even supposed to be there anyways :P In the end, I settled to stay outside with Faisal. Mimi's brother-in-law nonchalantly mentioned that for every 15 minutes I am late, the dowry doubles. Yeah, yeah, whatever you say Abg Long. It ain't like you're gonna get it :P
I was just literally four feet away from the entrance but I couldn't make out what my dad was saying even when there were microphones. Aiyaiyai. I wanna see how it's being done! Halfway through I got a text message from Afiq saying "Apsal Ayah formal sangat ah? Selalu memang macam ni ke?" in which I replied "Err mana tau, ni first time I'm attending such an event!" After countless times of prying with my ears, I gave up and just sat quietly.
Soon after I heard giggles and laughter from the audience. I also heard some short phrases being said within stanzas so my bet is that the other side's spokesperson is using pantun. I don't think my dad used pantun of any sort. Soon after there was a commotion coz the girl's coming downstairs! Haha. When she was seated at her place I could see her straight from my line of sight and I just broke into a beaming smile of happiness. All the stress from the jam and the missed turnings dissipated just like that. I also saw my mum put the ring to her hand and that signified the moment that we are now fiancees.
Around 20 minutes after we arrived, it was done. The first thing that my cousins said when they got out of the house was this:
"Eh, aku rase salah orang la..dia cakap Amir, bukan Azmir."
-______________________________-;;
How HARD is it to pronounce my name correctly?? Even my British flatmates and classmates could say it nicely. (Of course, Chun Mei is an exception but at least she tries to roll the R to get it right!) Apparently my mum kept trying to rectify the spokesperson and Mimi's side already wrote down my name on a piece of paper, but hey, things happen when they happen.
Afterwards, it was feasting time!! I must say that the food was brilliant. The meat was tender, the prawns were succulent, the rice was pleasingly fragrant.. Or was it the after-effect of getting engaged? :P But the whole entourage agreed on that! I had a little bit to eat as I was quite eager to go in for some pictures. In the process, I was introduced to Mimi's aunts from her dad's side which I've never met before - most of the time I see her mum's side coz they all live quite close to each other.
After several pictures session, we proceeded to bid our goodbyes for now. However, my parent's friends have left a bit earlier, Afiq left an hour earlier to attend to his client, and Kak Cik's family sped off as well, leaving only 6 of us to handle 7 hantaran of trays :P I was going to fetch the last one when I got a call from Audball saying we left one tray - don't worry Ballie, I'm on it!
We headed straight to Kak Cik's place to settle the hantaran - dividing it and giving it to whoever's appropriate. Evidently we left a big chunk at Kak Cik's as her family has helped us with a lot of things - bagi pinjam dulang, tolong hantar ke rumah pihak perempuan, and not to mention being a bidan-terjun photographer! Thanks very much for that!
We haven't set a date yet during the ceremony, but it'll have to be somewhere towards the end of next year as I'd like to settle my outstanding exams first. I guess now the term "darah manis" applies to me for one whole year starting now!
